Bio

Born in Carinthia/Austria in April 1986, Marthyn got his first snare drum at the age of 10 and started playing in a marching band right away. It was not until the age of 18 when he started to rehearse seriously and joined a local metal band. Later on in 2009, after only 4 years of consistent drum kit practice, he joined the Austrian metal line-up BELPHEGOR as their new session drummer.

From 2009 till 2015 he played several world tours with Belphegor which included tours in Europe, USA, Canada, Brasil, Mexico, Russia, India, Indonesia, China and Japan.

During this 6 year period he also worked as a session drummer for several other bands like Infestus, GodHateCode, Mondstille, Amongst the Deceit, Stormnatt etc…

His work with Belphegor includes the albums „Blood Magick Necromance“ in 2011 and „Conjuring the Dead“ in 2014.

In 2012 he also joined BLED DRY as full time member along with Bernth, who also worked as a session guitar player for Belphegor from 2010 till 2011.

Besides his busy touring and recording schedule he began studying drums at the VIENNA MUSIC INSTITUTE in fall 2011, where he graduated with honours on July 1st 2015.

After his time with Belphegor he took a step back from live drumming and focused completely on teaching drums. His first video series „SINGLE STROKE MASTERY- Your journey to 300 bpm“ was released in February 2016. In this videoseries he also presented his new hand technique, the „SWITCH GRIP TECHNIQUE“ for the first time. The Switch Grip Technique is designed to give drummers the possibility to play clean single strokes up to 300bpm for longer periods of time.

Marthyn is endorsed by Meinl Cymbals, Tama Drums, Pro Mark Sticks and Evans Drumheads.
